I merely switched Carriers from Verizon to MetroPCS. The guy in the store only swapped in a new SIM card in my Galaxy S6. He didn't seem to brand any other modifications in my Network Settings or anything. I manually added a Mobile Network for MetroPCS based on another guy'south telephone (on MPCS).

Anyhow, things seem to be working fine (network, WiFi, Data, phone calls). Merely I now take a foreign problem. When I click on SETTINGS / SOFTWARE UPDATE / Check FOR SOFTWARE UPDATE, I go an error = "Service Unavailable. Pitiful, we are having trouble authenticating your device. Try again afterwards."

Tin anyone explain WHY this is happening? My telephone is UNLOCKED - albeit purchased 2 years ago at a Verizon store. (It complains that my new SIM carte is non a Verizon Sim card. ugh.)

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Are you sure there's zero withal hanging effectually in you APN settings from VZW? Sound;southward similar it's trying to get to the Verizon update server.

No, I am not certain... I can't find whatever online reference as to what the existent settings for MetroPCS on this phone should be ... and the guy in the store didn't Add together information technology, per my previous msg.

Is there a reference someplace Hither that details what my Network APN entry must Look like? Thanks !

Well, those didn't assistance. Actually they differ in one of the settings : the MMC ... 260 vs 16 .. ????

But I recall yous're right -- there's SOMETHING Stuck pointing to Verizon withal. SO much for an "easy" switch of Carriers. :)

  6. Did you notify Verizon of the switch? I think they might have to conciliate your account on their CDMA network for the intermission to be concluding.

No, I did NOT. I asked the guy at MetroPCS if I had to do annihilation to make the switch - he said NO. He would arrange everything. So maybe I should verify with verizon. Cheers again.

Sure nosotros've had posts almost this before. It'south very likely that the carrier version firmware is hard-coded to Verizon, so it pings Verizon servers for updates and fails, and protests that it doesn't have a Verizon SIM. And but "unlocking" will non fix this.

I just chatted with verizon ... All is deactivated, no connections left (CDMA).. weird
  10. What'south the EXACT model number of the phone? Could exist that there is a downloadable firmware version, or y'all could use Samsung's Smart Switch.

You might have to download it as linatic suggested.

Some phones sold by a carrier will still get updates on a unlike carrier while others wont.

    thanks again.

  13. Samsung'southward in particular are very hard to track how they go their updates. If our resident Samsung expert @ironass might chinkle in ;) maybe he can give you a definitive answer. I looked up that model and it was originally shipped with Android 5.one and upgradable to 6.01, officially. That's probably where it will stop unless you lot want to mess with custom roms.

In whatsoever example, give smart switch a try and see if it volition update your phone for you.

From what I meet, SMART SWITCH is for Transferring "stuff" from an Old phone to a New telephone. I did Non become a new phone. All I did was get a new SIM carte. Practise you think it will still work for that situation?
  15. Smart Switch was introduced with the S6 and replaced Kies for not but transferring phone data but too for backups and updates. It should work with whatever S6 regardless of age.

It's the price of having a phone that was originally subsidized by the carrier. In theory you should be able to completely release information technology from anything Verizon provided the contract is fulfilled, but from what I've read in these forums, both Verizon and Sprint version devices can be particularly crippled.

Yea, I GET that conceptually now. Lesson Learned. (I sent a request to Samsung for whatever assistance they can provide. But unless I can somehow Backup then "Refresh" my S6 & thereby overwrite the Firmware (if that is in fact the problem), I think I'1000 stuck with this trouble until I get a new phone.
  18. The carrier branded minority variant of Milky way S6 for Verizon, G900Five , is primarily a CDMA model for use on that network, (although it should exist, by-and-large, fine on the Metro-PCS, GSM network. See link beneath.). Y'all will need to be registered on the Verizon network to receive their OTA updates as different the regular Samsung models, these are updated by Verizon and not direct from Samsung. There is a Metro-PCS firmware for the Milky way S6 but information technology is non compatible with the Verizon model. You could download the latest Verizon firmware, (nonetheless only on Marshmallow), meet link, below, and flash it using the Odin PC suite.
